Windsup

Windsup refers to a SUP board with a sail—a combination of a windsurf board and a SUP board—allowing you to paddle on calm days and enjoy the power of the wind on breezy days. Inflatable windsup boards fit easily into even a small car, as the board packs into a standard SUP backpack and the entire rig (mast, boom, sail) goes into its own convenient carrying bag. Assembling the rig takes only a few minutes and requires no tools. Our Mistral LT is a hard-shell, full-featured windsurf board, but you can also paddle it thanks to its high buoyancy. The most important feature of a windsup board is a good center fin, which enables sailing upwind.

If you already have a SUP board without a mast base, you can use Duotonen’s handy accessories to convert almost any SUP into a windsup board. You’ll need a removable center fin, an inflatable sail, and a mounting adapter for the sail, all of which can be found in our selection below.

Which Windsup Equipment Is Compatible?

In windsup setups, all sail packages are interchangeable as long as the mast adapter is the same. For example, you can use a Mistral sail on a Saimaa SUP Windi board or vice versa. The sail from a hard Mistral LT windsurf board also works on windsup boards. Exceptions are Duotonen inflatable sails, which are not compatible with windsup or hard windsurf boards. Likewise, hard-shell sail packages do not fit Duotonen adapters, as the strap-mounted removable mast bases are not designed for heavier sail/mast combinations.
