Life Jackets vs Buoyancy Aids – What’s the Difference?
Buoyancy aids are lightweight flotation devices that provide 50N (newtons) of lift. Most vests sold are buoyancy aids, as they are comfortable and versatile for a wide range of water activities. Life jackets, on the other hand, are built with a sturdier structure and can restrict movement slightly in active water sports, but they offer 100N of lift and are designed to turn the wearer’s face upward in the water for added safety. Both buoyancy aids and life jackets are suitable for boating use. Our selection also includes ultra-thin and comfortable impact vests, which do not carry the 50N CE rating (and are therefore not suitable for boating), as they are designed for high-speed sports where a towboat driver is always present to ensure safety.
