The Mistral Vortex SD2 is based on our successful Vortex board, a multiple winner of 11 cities, top finisher in world class events and former world record holder for the 24 hour paddle.
The Vortex SD2 (Special Development) has been designed to deliver even better performance with a number of key improvements.
The stance area has been deepened, improving balance and stability during paddling. The sides have been reinforced and straightened, while the steeper and hardened edges from the centre backwards provide better control and ride line grip.
The bow has been reshaped to penetrate waves more effectively, and two sets of scupper holes have been added to the deck to keep the chassis dry both in motion and in the event of water entering the deck.
A state-of-the-art professional board at just 20.5" wide - yet exceptionally stable.
Excellent performance in both calm and gently rippling water.
Valve:
An air expansion compensating valve is integrated into the cover to release pressure from the EPS foam core due to temperature rise. This prevents deformation and extends the life of the structure.
Cover design:
The gently recessed lid improves balance and standing comfort.
Deck padding:
Extremely comfortable and non-slip EVA foam padding that reduces leg fatigue and improves comfort even during long paddling sessions. Provides excellent grip and stability.
Excellent stability and excellent comfort for long-lasting use:
Hard edges at the back, softer from the middle forward - this improves both handling and ride line grip.
Tail shape:
Square tail for improved stability and streamlining, especially in flat and light waves.
Box type:
One US Box standard fin box, compatible with a wide range of fin models.
Base material:
Carbon fibre oxide laminate with lightweight EPS foam core - a combination that provides stiffness and lightness for top performance.
High-density polyurethane with a lightweight, lightweight polyurethane core and a lightweight, lightweight polyurethane core with a lightweight polyurethane foam:
A sleeved neoprene handle that feels comfortable to carry and provides a good grip even in wet conditions.
Construction:
The product is made of a double-layer carbon fibre composite with an EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) foam structure at its core, a combination that provides a lightweight but highly durable construction suitable for demanding use.
Manufacturing method:
The composite structure is vacuum bagged and oven baked. These manufacturing steps allow for optimal resin distribution and removal of excess moisture, resulting in a very dry weight finish and an exceptionally strong surface structure.
This process results in a very light but strong structure, a precise and uniform finish, excellent impact and torsional strength, and a long service life even under heavy use.
